2011 has been a good year and we are feeling settled in our new home. The conservatory we built has been a fantastic asset in all seasons – it has lots of light and good views, and we now have a new kitchen and have retiled the en-suite.
The highlight of the year was a trip to USA to see Kath’s sister, to visit the White mountains during the fall and enjoy a long weekend in Manhattan. We also had a rather wet holiday in Islay and Argyll with Vaughan and Margaret, and also saw them in August.
Kath is enjoying her golf and had a trip to Portugal in February with her club. Her right knee had been causing trouble and she had knee replacement surgery at the end of November.
Our cottage in Reeth was sold during the summer - it was sad to see it go, but also something of a relief, as it was costly to keep given that we didn’t use it much.
Rayfield Artists became Rayfield Allied, extending the number and range of artists they manage. Ben and Loulou expect to be parents early in May, to the delight of the whole family.
Kate gave up her job as a solicitor and was called to the Bar in July. Chris is still enjoying being at the Bench and is based mainly in Leeds and sometimes sits in Bradford. Sam is now four and has started school; and Millie has had her second birthday. They are delightful and bring much joy and laughter into our lives.
Kath continues with golf and hopes to improve her handicap now that she has a new knee. She has also made contact with a Yorkshire-based contemporary quilting group. John has had a reasonably successful re-entry to orchestral playing with his violin and is now trying to move up a notch! His teacher seems to understand the needs of old codgers! The last of the UAE research grants produced a couple of posters in this year’s American Diabetic Association meeting, and he still does occasional reviewing and editorial work.
We hope you all have a very happy, healthy and
prosperous 2012.
